little white elephant

In many tales the white elephant is considered a sacred animal, and often associated with the birth of Buddha. His mother is said to have dreamed of a white elephant presenting her with a lotus flower, a symbol of wisdom and purity, on the eve of giving birth. I have tried to capture this beautiful symbolism in the creation of this wee elephant.

Entirely hand sewn and hand crafted from a beautiful white wool, she wears a lovely little vintage lace blanket. She has subdued rose patterned linen on her ears. She is stuffed with pure lambs wool and has a wire armature for stability.

This little beauty measures about 4 and 1/2 inches tall and 6 inches long. Each stitch was lovingly made, and she should be treated with care. She is not meant as a toy for small children.
